First thousand
thousand
14 April 2024
More than a thousand people played Casual Legends in a month. This is a humble and humbling number. Nowadays, I get feedback and requests from players I have never met every day.
For some reason, we are getting many players from Indonesia, China, and Russia—a lot more than we anticipated. D&D is truly a global phenomenon.
I see some players playing big campaigns, bringing detailed character sheets with them and starting from already rich and detailed background stories.
One of my early decisions is always to ask if players want to roll the dice or prefer the game master to roll for them.
What is interesting to see in real games is that many people take the actual dice and roll it, adding a table-top-like warm feeling to the game.
Our team is growing. Three more developers joined the team: Nate, Nisha, and Hung. They all brought their expertise and significantly speeded up progress towards the app.
Let me show you how it shaping up:
We are going for the consistent look of D&D-like books with a homebrew feel. We should have an alpha available in a few weeks at our current speed.
Meanwhile, we keep building on Discord. Today, we released a new version of the game master with much better memory and summarization for even longer campaigns. Since we made the beta available, we have already seen players pick it up for a longer format with more players and more action involved.
As a team, we coordinate our work on the same Discord, constantly interacting with players and seeing the community grow. We have just about 100 members, and at this size, I say hi to everyone joining. I enjoy this early days when I can connect with everyone personally.
If you are reading this and have not joined our Discord yet, please consider; I will be happy to see you there. Let's play!
